HOW K4YZI CAME TO BE:

My Story

Hi there, my name is Jim.

When I was a young child, I was fascinated with CB Radio. My neighbors had a mobile unit in their house with a huge antenna and we used to be able to talk to truckers and sometimes we talked over “skip” to people far far  away. This fascinated me to no ends.

My parents bought me a CB base station with an exceedingly small antenna, and I used to sit in my bedroom at night and try to talk to people.

I am 54 now. And I still have the radio bug. I have a GMRS license and recently earned my Technicians license for HAM radio. I immediately went out and bought radios for my car, home, and handheld units.

My call sign is K4YZI and I am learning new things about HAM radio every day. I am studying for my General Class license now and hoping to get that in November 2020.
